Well a month has gone by , The horses had a break over the Christmas Holidays. Robertson started back slowly last week being lunged and longlined. We will be doing slow work to build his topline cardio, strength and responsiveness over the winter.. Today brought fresh snow so a trail ride was in order. We were dressed for extreme cold. However, we couldn’t resist making fresh tracks in the pristine arena. Much like first tracks in a freshly dragged sand arena, its special. So here is the video for today’s session. It was a spur of the moment decision , you take what is presented. We were dressed for farm work and cold weather so our apologies that we weren’t dressed for a show. He was fresh. Mother nature provided the footing, so you can see the potential in this horse. He has extension loft and cadence. He really wanted to have a good roll.

Sporadic lessons these past 2 weeks. A jumping lesson Tuesday and Friday. Tuesday we did stops after the gymnastic then 2 fences and a halt . Friday we put it together as a small course . We did several repetitions lots of walk breaks. The horses have their winter coats so they get warm pretty quick. We are working on lead changes . He is an obedient guy and loves attention particularly his after workout rub downs

Cross Rail Gymnastic

We put up a 3 fence gymnastic to teach rhythm , straightness and obedience . Bob enjoys the jumping. we’ve been working on his flat work as well and limiting the jumping to once or twice a week. We started with one set of fences at each cycle and adding a second when the first pass through went reasonable well . This video is a couple of runs through all three fences. We finished with a relaxing cool out. A lovely gentleman in a horse.

Flat Work Friday : We did some flat work with Bob on Friday, Thursday was a challenge with a resident bear hanging out below the ring. Bob isn’t real fond of them so after Thursdays session he was expecting company Friday morning . He soon realized he was safe, the weather was cool and a few flurries in the air. To say the least, there was lots of horse power in the engine. We will persevere.

Maxwelton’s Robertson (Bob) Over Fences,

Hopefully the young rider in the picture will be piloting him around soon. Bob seems to take everything in stride and quite likes the over fence work.

This one from May  with a young rider up. We will update weekly on his progress.
